Junior guard honored for play in win over Jacksonville State

NEW ORLEANS – University of New Orleans guard Randi Brown has been voted Southland Conference Women’s Player of the Week (Nov. 28) for her performance in the Privateers’ victory over Jacksonville State on Nov.22, in Jacksonville, Alabama.

Brown, a Preseason First Team All-Southland Conference selection, hit the winning basket with :08 seconds to go in regulation as New Orleans defeated the Gamecocks, 81-79.

The junior had season and game highs of 28-points and 11-rebounds in 29 minutes of action. She was saddled with 3 fouls in the first half and picked up a fourth in the second half.

Through games of Nov.27, Brown is the leading scorer in the Southland Conference (SLC) averaging 20.2 points per game over five contests. She leads the conference in points scored (101), field goals made (36), and is tied for second in 3-pointers made with 14.

This is the third SLC Player of the Week recognition for Brown having won back-to-back weeks (Mar. 2 and Mar. 8) in 2015 during her freshman season. The Houma, Louisiana native was named Southland Conference Freshman of the Year during the 2014-15 season.

Randi and her New Orleans Privateers teammates return to action Wednesday, Nov. 30, at lakefront Arena in New Orleans when they host Texas Southern University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p. m.
