FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls State University redshirt senior Ja’Dante’ Frye has been named Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Frye, a native of Thibodaux and graduate of E.D White, averaged 19.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and shot 61.5 percent from the field in three games last week, leading the Colonels to a pair of victories. Frye’s best outing came in the double-overtime win at Samford where he scored a career-high 33 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double. Frye shot 14-of- 22 from the field in the victory and hit a pair of 3-pointers as the Colonels overcame a 19-point deficit in the second half. For the week, he also added four steals and two blocks.
After seven games, Frye is second on the Colonels in scoring at 14.7 points and is leading the team in rebounding with 7.0 per game.
The Colonels closed out the San Diego Classic with wins over Bethune-Cookman and Samford to put their record at 4-3 on the season. They will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 1 at Louisiana-Lafayette. Tipoff against the Ragin’ Cajuns is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
