JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The defending All American Amateur Baseball Association champion New Orleans Boosters were eliminated in a 4-2 loss to Zanesville, Ohio, in the quarterfinals Thursday at Point Stadium.

New Orleans jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by JP LaGreco, scoring Daniel Lahare.

That lead held up until the fifth, when Zanesville tied the game. The Junior Pioneers took the lead for good with a pair of runs off New Orleans starter Evan Hileman in the sixth.

The key inning of the game may have been the bottom of the sixth, when New Orleans got consecutive hits to open the inning from LaGreco, Spencer Miller and Chris Reid to pull within 3-2, but the Boosters could not push the tying run across.

Zanesville advances to a Friday semifinal against Chicago Metro.

This is the first year of a new format for the AAABA tournament, in which pool play was instituted for the first three days, with the top two teams from each of the four pools advancing to a single-elimination, eight-team bracket.
