NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana will have four seeded singles players and three seeded doubles teams in the ITA NAIA South Regional Championships Presented by Oracle, a three-day tournament which will begin Friday at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville.
XULA has three men’s singles seeds. Karan Salwan is third, Thomas Setodji is fourth, and Tushar Mandlekar is eighth. Both men’s doubles teams were seeded — Setodji and Salwan are second, and Mandlekar and Albrecht are fourth.
Both Gold Rush doubles teams won their brackets this past week at the HBCU National Championships in College Park, Ga., and Setodji and Mandlekar were singles runners-up. XULA repeated as men’s team champion.
In the women’s brackets, XULA’s Charlene Goreau is seeded third in singles, and the doubles team of Emma Kranendonk and Lacee Ancar is fourth.
First to compete Friday for XULA will be the women’s doubles teams of Sha’Nel Bruinsand Dasia Harris, Goreau and Whitney Vilmaure and Brandi Nelson and Lyndsey Clark. All will play at 8 a.m. EDT.
The Weather Channel’s online site predicts a 10-percent of rain Saturday in Lawrenceville, with dry conditions the other two days. High temperatures will range from 88 Friday to 91 Saturday.
The South Regional returns to Georgia after three consecutive years in New Orleans with XULA as the host.
