HOUSTON – The Louisiana Tech women’s tennis team faced its fifth nationally-ranked opponent of the spring and could not pull off the upset, falling 7-0 to No. 35 Rice on Saturday afternoon at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

Conference USA foe Rice (15-5) was able to remain perfect at home on the season by claiming the doubles point and winning all six singles courts in straight sets.

LA Tech (12-12) shuffled its top doubles lineup, putting senior Jazmin Britos and sophomore Sonia Chen together for the first time this dual season. The duo immediately meshed well, winning the first four games of the match.

The tandem was up 4-3 in the match when it was called after the Owls clinched victories on courts two and three to claim the opening point of the match.

The singles lineup changed a bit as well for the Lady Techsters with senior Marta Sramkova playing at No. 3, Chen playing at No. 4 and junior Haley Ballinger playing at No. 5.

Rice ended up being too much to handle on its senior day, picking up all six singles wins for their sixth straight victory.

LA Tech will now regroup and await its seeding in the C-USA Tournament which gets underway on Thursday, April 20 in Denton, Texas at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
