(Montgomery, Ala.) Loyola University New Orleans sophomore Malcolm Pitchford (SO/Lombard, Ill.) has been selected as this week’s Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Pitchford and the rest of the Wolf Pack track & field team competed at the Montevallo Falcon Track and Field Classic over the weekend and it only took Malcolm one event to impress.

Pitchford competed in the 400-meter hurdles where he took fifth in the event with a time of 57.57. His quick finish was the fastest by any male SSAC runner this year and it is currently the 36th fastest time in the NAIA.

This is Pitchford’s first career men’s track athlete of the week award and the first award for the Wolf Pack men’s team this season.

Loyola returns to the track on Saturday, April 1, to take part in the Southern Miss Invitational in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Previous Winners (Field, Track)
