Wolf Pack men’s golf claims 15th at 2017 Golfweek NAIA Spring Invite

(Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.) After carding a 320 to end day one in 14th place, the Loyola University New Orleans men’s golf team returned to the El Campeón Golf Course on Monday morning for the final round of the 2017 Golfweek NAIA Spring Invite in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

The Wolf Pack finished play Monday with a total team score of 959 to leave Florida in 15th place overall out of the 17-team field, which featured nine ranked teams and one program that received votes in the latest NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

No. 4 Keiser University took the team crown on Monday with a team score of 900 to edge out (RV) Webber International by just two strokes.

Individually, St. Thomas’ Carlos Andres Lara jumped six spots on day two to tie with No. 6 Johnson & Wales’ Jake Bauer for individual medalist honors (219).

Philip Nijoka (SO/Houston, Texas) was low man for the Wolf Pack at the event, carding a 226 (+10) to leave Florida tied for 15th place. Jose Perez (SO/Pichincha, Ecuador ) dropped 21 spots after the final round to finish tied for 68th with a 241 (+25) while Mark Nijoka (SO/Houston, Texas) and Hunter Crochet (JR/Lake Charles, La.) both recorded a 248 (+32) to end the day tied for 74th.

Jack Dickson (FR/Oldsmar, Fla.) was the final finisher for the Wolf Pack in Florida – the freshman tallied a 253 (+37) to wrap up action tied for 83rd.

The Wolf Pack returns to the greens on April 17-19 for the SSAC Championships in Montgomery, Ala.
