(Westwego, La.) Coming off a split on Friday night, the Loyola University New Orleans baseball team returned to Segnette Field on Saturday afternoon to close out its three-game series with the No. 25 University of Mobile.
Despite two close games that saw the Wolf Pack steal a victory to start the series, Saturday’s contest proved to be a very lopsided affair. Fueled by 15 hits and a near perfect game by pitcher Braxton Rhodes, the visiting Rams left New Orleans on Saturday with a convincing 12-0 victory to improve to 17-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
Conversely, Loyola drops to 12-14 on the year and 1-5 in league play heading into Wednesday’s doubleheader against NCAA DII Spring Hill College.
The visiting team converted five hits in the top half of the first inning into three runs to take the early 3-0 advantage.
The Rams followed up their stellar first inning with an eight-run second to push the advantage to 11-0 after two.
Mobile tacked on its final run of the day in the fourth after a single by first baseman Chris Hopballe drove in leadoff hitter J.T. Peddrick.
Spencer Rosenbohm’s leadoff single in the bottom of the sixth proved to be the Wolf Pack’s only hit of the afternoon.
Defensively, Ben Condara collected a team-high eight putouts on Saturday while Brandon Wilson Jr. and Rosenbohm each notched four assists in the loss.
Loyola will welcome NCAA DII opponent Spring Hill College to Segnette Field on Wednesday, March 15, with the first pitch of the twinbill set for 4:00 p.m.
