(Westwego, La.) Looking to bounce back following a sweep by No. 23 William Carey over the weekend, the Loyola University New Orleans baseball team made its return to Segnette Field on Friday evening to welcome the No. 25 Rams from the University of Mobile to town for a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) doubleheader.
The Wolf Pack managed to earn a split against the Rams on Friday night in a battle between two stellar pitching staffs.
In game one, Nick Moore (SR/Marrero, La.) (1-2) got the win after going 5.1 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits on 83 pitches. Joseph Kuchler (JR/Metairie, La.) came in for the save in the opening game and surrendered no runs on just one hit in 1.2 innings to seal the 3-2 upset victory for the Wolf Pack (12-13, 1-4) to start the night.
Mobile’s arms took center stage in game two as Garrett Waters went six scoreless innings before allowing two runs (one earned) in the seventh. Last year’s conference leader for ERA in conference games, Waters fanned 11 batters on 132 pitches to stave off a charging Loyola squad and give the Rams (16-6, 4-1 SSAC) the 5-2 victory in the second game.
