MONROE, La. – ULM Director of Athletics Brian Wickstrom has been appointed as a member of the NCAA Division I Committee on Academics, it was announced Thursday.

“I am honored to be the Sun Belt Conference representative on the Division I Committee on Academics,” said Wickstrom. “Academics has always a priority for me since I was a student-athlete at Kansas State.”

This is the third NCAA committee that Wickstrom has been appointed to, as he currently also serves as a member of the NCAA Olympic Sports Liaison Committee and previously served on the NCAA Women’s Basketball Issues Committee.

“Brian brings a wealth of experience to this committee and will represent the Sun Belt Conference in a very positive way,” Sun Belt Conference commissioner Karl Benson stated.

The NCAA Division I Committee on Academics supports the primacy of the Association’s academic mission through the management of Division I academics matters, including policy, eligibility standards, and the NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program (APP). The Committee on Academics is chaired by a Division I president and consists of university presidents, a provost, faculty athletics representatives, directors of athletics, senior woman administrators, conference administrators and a student-athlete. The Committee on Academics subsumes the roles served by the Committee on Academic Performance and the Academic Cabinet in former Division I structure.

The appointment begins July 1, 2017 and will run until August 31, 2021.

Wickstrom is currently in his fourth year as ULM’s Director of Athletics.
