HAMMOND, La. – The weekly honors continue to roll in for Southeastern Louisiana third baseman Taylor Schwaner.
After a monstrous week at the plate, during which the junior from New Orleans (Holy Cross High School) smashed four home runs, Schwaner has been named both the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week and the Louisiana Hitter of the Week.
The honors come on the heels of Monday’s announcement by Collegiate Baseball that he was a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week.
Schwaner became the first Lion in recent memory to homer in three consecutive games (Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday). His first blast came in dramatic fashion – a game-winning, two-run home run against West Virginia in the 12th inning Wednesday.
After crushing another round tripper on Friday at his father’s alma mater, New Orleans, he capped off the binge with a pair of three-run home runs Saturday to fuel the Lions’ 8-3 win over the Privateers.
The junior hit .500 for the week while racking up a slugging percentage of 1.438 and an on-base percentage of .579.
Schwaner’s exploits helped the Lions to three wins to open conference play and run his team’s win streak to seven games.
