Warhawks open SBC Championship on Friday

Arlington, Tex. – The ULM men’s and women’s track & field teams opened the SBC Championship meet on Friday, highlighted by a fifth place finish in the javelin for Mi’Ca Lowe.


-Friday saw the opening five events of the decathlon which featured Austin Walker for the Warhawks. Walker opened the event with a season-best in the 100 meter dash, posting a time of 11.54 seconds, which put him in sixth after the opening event. After a ninth place finish in the long jump and finishing eighth in the shot put, he finished third with a 1.89 meter jump in the high jump and overall sits in eighth after five events with the remaining events coming on Saturday.

-Mi’Ca Lowe recorded a 42.53 meter toss in the javelin throw on Friday to pick up her fifth place finish in her first event of the year.

-Lonnie Wiley had a 10th place finish in the men’s javelin throw with a 52.49 meter distance. In the women’s 10,000 meter run, Edith Jebet had a ninth place showing with her time of 38:44.70.

-In the final race of the night, the Warhawks sent a four-man contigent into the 10,000 meter race, led by Elias Keter’s seventh place performance. Keter ran a 31:36.16 time, with teammate Kipkirui Victor following close behind with a time of 31:53.62 to finish eighth overall. Jonathan Jeffcoat rounded out the top 10 with a 32:20.07 time.


-ULM will next be back on the track tomorrow morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the remainder of the decathlon events leading things off for the Warhawks.
