JACKSON, Miss. – The ULM baseball team notched three home runs over the opening three innings on Tuesday night en route to a 10-2 victory at Jackson State in the Warhawks’ first of 10 straight road games.

FINAL SCORE: ULM 10, Jackson State 2
LOCATION: Bob Braddy Field / Jackson, Miss.
RECORDS: ULM (4-4, 0-0 SBC), Jackson State (4-4, 0-0 SWAC)

-Nate Reynolds sent the second pitch of the night over the left field wall for a solo home run that set the tone, followed by Turner Francis’ two-run homer an inning later. Johnny DeLaCruz capped the early bombs with a solo homer of his own in the top of the third inning that gave ULM a 4-1 advantage it would continue to grow.

-The early home runs over the first three innings paved the way, starting with Reynolds’ shot to open the night. Francis’ two-run homer in the second inning was a line drive, while DeLaCruz hit a moonshot, no doubter in the third.
-ULM added to the lead with four runs in the sixth, all coming with two outs, as Brian Barefoot delivered an RBI double, Reynolds singled into center field to bring in a run and Spencer Hemphill connected on a two-run single of his own.
-Francis connected on his second homer of the night, this time a solo shot, in the seventh, and Brady McGehee drove home the final run of the night with his double down the right field line in the top of the ninth.
-Jackson State temporarily tied the game in the bottom of the first after a leadoff bunt single later scored via a ULM throwing error, and then scored its only other run in the eighth with a double and an RBI groundout.
-ULM starting pitcher Cole Hendrix allowed just one unearned run over four innings of work, giving up just five scattered hits and striking out five for his first victory of the season.
-Kyle Backofen notched three strikeouts in two innings of relief, following by an inning each from Tyler Schwaner (1 strikeout), Matthew Reeves (2 strikeouts) and Keegan Curtis (1 strikeout).

-The Warhawks opened their longest road trip since the 1990 season (also 10 game road trip) with a victory…back in 1990, ULM won the first two games of the trip but finished just 3-7 overall.
-DeLaCruz now holds a .481 batting average through eight games to lead ULM, while his five extra-base hits (four doubles, one home run) are also a team lead.
-Francis’ two home run game was the first for ULM since Danny Springer’s two homers at McNeese back on March 16, 2016.
-Tuesday was the Warhawks’ first-ever victory over Jackson State in Jackson, while the win evened the all-time series at 3-3 overall.

-ULM plays its second of back-to-back midweek contests at McNeese on Wednesday night with a 6:00 p.m. first pitch.
