Location: Traditions at Cypresswood / Cypresswood, Texas
Cypresswood, Texas – The ULM men’s golf team came from behind on Tueday to capture back-to-back tournament victories to open the 2017 season, winning the Colin Montgomerie/HBU Invitiational by four shots.
-Hogan Arey led the Warhawks on Tuesday as he posted a three-under par 69 to lead the Warhawks’ comeback. Arey’s highlight of the day came down the stretch as he birdied three of the final four holes to lead the Warhawks comeback. In six tournaments during the 2016-17 campaign, Arey has now finished in the top six in five of those events, including tying for the win last week.
-Joao Girao posted a one-over par 73 on Tuesday with birdies on the second, ninth, 12th, 15th and 18thholes in route to his 73.
-Guillaume Fanonnel posted a two-over par 74 on Tuesday. Fanonnel struggled early as he went out with a plus-three score but was able to recover nicely with three birdies on the back nine on holes 11,12 and 18 to finish at two-over par for the day.
-Jeff Berry posted a 76 as he struggled to get anything going throughout the day. Much like Fanonnel, he struggled on the front nine going out with a 41 but birdies on the 12,14 and 18th holes helped himself to a one-under par back nine.
-Thibault Santigny rounded out the Warhawks five-man roster on Tuesday as he posted a 80 as he struggled early. He was able to pick up his lone birdie on the 12th hole but otherwise couldn’t get anything going the rest of the day.
Head Coach Tim Baldwin
Thought on the Round: I’m very happy for the team as we were struggling at one point and we played really well there at the finish. Hogan played extremely well with eight birdies today while everyone contributed to the cause, especially in the last three or four holes. Being able to come from behind is huge because we have done that in the fall but it tells me we can win in any scenario regardless even with a young team but we also know how to win so that is good thing.
-Following the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, the Warhawks now head to Laredo, Texas for the Border Olympics. The two-day event will begin on March 10.
