Warhawks Fall Tuesday at Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The visiting ULM baseball team was held hitless until the fourth inning as host Arkansas scored in five of the first six innings to hand the Warhawks a 12-3 loss in game one of the team’s two-game midweek series on Tuesday afternoon.
FINAL SCORE: #30 Arkansas 12, ULM 3
LOCATION: Baum Stadium / Fayetteville, Arkansas
RECORDS: ULM (4-9, 0-0 SBC), Arkansas (9-3, 0-0 SEC)
-Arkansas plated a single run in the first and two runs in the second inning before a five-run third inning gave the hosts an advantage that they would add to throughout the afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Arkansas used an RBI double in the bottom of the first, and then an RBI double and a squeeze bunt in the second, to take a three-run lead before the five run third inning, which was highlighted by a pair of two-run homers. The hosts then added two runs in the fifth, via a run-scoring single and a wild pitch, and two runs in the sixth, on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly.
-The Warhawks posted one run in the top of the fifth when they had the bases loaded and one out but only were able to get an RBI groundout from Anthony Herrera to score in the frame.
-ULM again had the bases loaded and one out in the sixth when Spencer Hemphill sent a line drive off the foot of Arkansas pitcher Dominic Taccolini to bring in a Warhawk run before Taccolini struck out back-to-back batters to end the threat.
-The Warhawks added their final run of the afternoon in the top of the eighth via Chad Bell’s solo home run to center field.
-ULM finished the afternoon with 10 hits and left 10 men stranded on the bases, including two runners in both the fourth and ninth innings and three runners in the sixth inning.
-Turner Francis and Hemphill each finished with two hits to lead the ULM offense in the loss, while Herrera (1-for-3), Bell (1-for-4) and Hemphill all drove in runs for the Warhawks.
-ULM starter Cole Hendrix (1-1) was saddled with the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits over 2 1/3 innings of work.
-The Warhawks wrap up the midweek series with Arkansas on Wednesday afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
