Warhawks fall to No. 20 Texas A&M in NCAA First Round

Waco, Texas – The ULM tennis team gave a battle to No. 20 Texas A&M on Saturday morning in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, but the Warhawks were unable to pick up the win and fell to the Aggies 4-2 in Texas.

NOTABLES
-In doubles action, Texas A&M took the point with a pair of wins over Stefana Andrei and Petra Horakova in number one doubles, while Madalina Grigoriu and Karolina Snita fell on court two, by scores of 6-4 and 6-2, respectively. The Warhawks did get a doubles win from Luana Stanciu and Tiffany Mylonas as the duo won 6-3.
-Texas A&M pushed their singles lead out to 2-0 by winning the number six singles match over Grigoriu 6-0, 6-4. The Warhawks respondeded with a pair of wins of their own from the top two singles players in Andrei and Mylonas.
-Mylonas defeated No. 53 singles player Rutuja Bhosale by a score of 6-3, 6-4, while Andrei won her singles match against No. 16 Rachel Pierson by a 6-4, 6-4 score to tie the match up at 2-all with three singles matches to play.
-Texas A&M would push the lead back out to 3-2 after a straight set win over Patricia Villar, winning that match 6-1, 6-4 as the Warhawks needed both of the remaining matches to extend the season. The Aggies had other ideas and picked up the win over Snita 6-2, 7-5 to secure the match and end the Warhawks season on Saturday.
-Senior Petra Horakova’s match went unfinished, as it was halted in the third set with the score at 4-6, 6-2, 1-1. She ends her Warhawk career with a 63-8 dual record including a perfect 16-0 senior campaign.
