SAN MARCOS, Texas – Host Texas State plated five runs over the opening two innings and the ULM baseball team was unable to complete a comeback attempt and fell 7-4 on Saturday afternoon in the series finale in Sun Belt Conference road action.

-After Texas State took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, ULM had two runners on base in the top of the second inning before a popup ended the inning and the threat. Later in the ballgame, trailing by three runs, the Warhawks had runners on first and third with two outs before having the runner at first base picked off to end the inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-ULM jumped on the board via Cade Stone’s leadoff home run on the very first pitch of the afternoon before Texas State answered with two runs in the bottom of the first on back-to-back run scoring hits, first a double that was followed up by a single, as the hosts took the lead.
-Texas State extended the lead in the bottom of the second with three runs, via a two-run single and an RBI base hit, to push the lead to 5-1. The Warhawks cut into the deficit in the top of the fourth on one swing of the bat when Tyler Cox connected on a two-run homer to deep left center field.
-The hosts again extended their advantage in the fifth, using a RBI single to push the lead back to three runs before ULM responded in the top of the eighth when Cox delivered a two out RBI double to again pull ULM within two runs.
-Texas State added a final run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly to push the advantage out to three runs.
-ULM left five men on base, including the two runners in the second inning and single runners stranded in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth frames.
-The Warhawks finished with five hits, three of which were for extra bases, as Cox finished 2-for-4 with three RBI via the homer and double. Anthony Herrera, Cade Harper and Stone each notched one hit in the loss.
-ULM starter Keegan Curtis was unable to get out of the second inning, allowing five runs on four hits with two walks, while four Warhawk relievers combined for eight innings, allowing two total runs and combining to strikeout six Texas State batters.
-Texas State was led by a three-hit afternoon from Teddy Hoffman, while Bobcat starting pitcher Nicholas Fraze struck out five over seven innings to earn the win.
-ULM now returns home and makes the short trip to Grambling next Tuesday night for a 6:00 p.m. contest before hosting UT-Arlington in Sun Belt Conference action next weekend at Warhawk Field.
