Warhawks Break Even in Saturday Play

MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team split a pair of games on Saturday at the Central Arkansas Invitational, grabbing a 4-3 win over Houston Baptist and falling 10-6 to Central Arkansas.

-Against Central Arkansas, the Warhawks led through five innings before the Sugar Bears took the lead with four runs in the fifth and followed that up with six runs in the sixth inning to take control.
-Against Houston Baptist, the Warhawks’ two-run first inning proved to be just enough as the teams traded single run innings the rest of the way.

-In the early game against Central Arkansas, Sydney McKay and Melanie Coyne each finished with three hits, as Coyne drove in three RBI. Cheyanne Lyon (one hit) added two RBI of her own in the loss.
-Coyne was saddled with the loss, allowing 10 runs on nine hits with five strikeouts as the hosts were able to rally late with the 10 total runs across the fourth and fifth frames to take the victory.
-Against Houston Baptist, McKay finished with three of ULM’s five total hits as a team, while Jayden Mount (2 RBI) and Coyne (RBI) each added hits.
-Rachael Murphy earned the win in the circle, allowing just one run over the opening four innings before Paige Porter tossed one inning and Jesse Watts notched her second save of the year after going the final two innings with two strikeouts.

The Warhawks will close out action the Central Arkansas Invitational Sunday morning against Western Illinois University.
