HAMMOND, La. – Three student-athletes have signed a National Letter of Intent to continue both their academic and athletic endeavors as members of the Lady Lion volleyball program, Southeastern Louisiana coach Jim Smoot announced Wednesday.

Michelle Mirachi (Plano, Texas), Alexandra “Lexie” Torres (Helotes, Texas) and Tempestt Vaughn (Beaumont, Texas) join three previously announced early signees to form Southeastern’s 2017 signing class.

“We had some positions we needed to fill late,” Smoot said. “Luckily, we found some very strong players to fill those positions.”

Mirachi, a setter at Plano High School, recorded a .292 attack percentage, 16 kills, 25 aces, 265 digs, 512 assists as a senior.

“I feel super fortunate we were able to get her as a late addition,” Smoot said. “There was a mutual decision that Elyssa Purcell wants to be just an attacker. We liked Michelle, but before we had two setters. She is energetic and has an excitement about her game. She’s a great setter, can run any type of offense, and is really good at making bad passes into hittable sets.”

Mirachi’s older sister Lesley was an All-Conference volleyball player at UL Lafayette

Torres comes to Southeastern from Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas. As a sophomore, Torres helped Hill to a 23-11 overall record and an 11-1 conference mark.

“Lexie is a great libero,” Smoot said. “Everybody raves about her. She is a great passer and defensive player. A volleyball fanatic, she’d be in the gym 24-hours a day if she could. She’ll shore up our passing and defensive needs.”

In 2016 Torres played in 33 matches (119 sets), handing out 77 assists and averaging 3.78 digs per set.

Torres played three years of varsity volleyball at Incarnate Word High School in San Antonio, Texas.

Vaughn was the District 22-5A Defensive Player of the Year as a junior at Ozen High School.

“Tempestt is really starting to come into her own, and after playing with a high-level club,” Smoot said. “She’s athletic, works very hard and is an intuitive player. When she gets into our system and is playing against good players all the time, she’s going to take off.”
