ULM Women’s Basketball defeated at Appalachian State Saturday

Monroe, La. – The ULM women’s basketball team’s second half comeback fell short with a 79-61 loss on the road to Appalachian State in Sun Belt Conference play Saturday afternoon.

-A tight game at the start, Appalachian State used a 13-2 run to close out the first quarter and took a 21-9 lead into the second quarter as they opened up the lead before ULM’s comeback attempt.

-Although the Mountaineers lead by as many as 22 points in the contest, by the fourth quarter ULM had whittled the deficit down to as few as 10 points.
-Gabrialla Cortez posted the game-high 21 points for ULM, nearly notching a double-double with her nine defensive rebounds. Carissa Moody followed Cortez with 19 points of her own while adding seven rebounds (four defensive), three assists and two steals.
-Alexis Collins also grabbed double-digit points with 10 while adding two assists.
-Although the Warhawks finished the night perfect at the free throw line (10-for-10), Appalachian State finished with 33 free throw attempts. The Mountaineers also out rebounded the Warhawks 49-24.
-Appalachian State had three players in double digits with Ashley Bassett-Smith leading the way with 19 of the teams’ 79 points. Bassett-Smith shot 8-of-10 from the floor and went 3-for-3 at the line.

-The Warhawks now return home for the final two regular season contests against UTA (Thursday) and Texas State (Saturday). The game against Texas State next Saturday will be Senior Day for ULM.
