ULM softball unable to overcome big inning by GSU in Sun Belt tourney

Troy, Ala. – The seventh-seeded ULM softball team was unable to overcome a hot start from No. 3 Georgia State on Wednesday night as the Panthers picked up the 5-2 win in Sun Belt Championship action.

-The Panthers jumped out to a quick start with a five-run bottom of the first inning, using five hits in the inning to grab control of the game.

-Jayden Mount picked up a pair of hits, highlighted by an RBI single in the third inning, to pace the Warhawks. Cheyanne Lyon, Samantha Agamaite, Jessie Watts and Sami Billeaudeau each added a base hit. Sydney McKay picked up an RBI on a fifth inning via a groundout.
-After Georgia State’s five-run first inning, ULM cut into the deficit in the top of third when Billeaudeau led off the frame with a double and scored on Mount’s RBI single. The Warhawks then added one other run in the fifth when Mount reached on an error and later scored on McKay’s RBI groundout, but could get no closer.
-Watts was saddled with the loss after allowing five runs on four hits. Paige Porter came in relief of Watts and held the Panthers scoreless through the final six innings scattering four hits and striking out two batters.

-The Warhawks now fall into the bottom portion of the bracket and play on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. against the loser of the Ragin’ Cajun/South Alabama contest on Thursday morning.
