Softball Falls in UTA Series Finale

THE BASICS
Score: UTA 2, ULM 1 (15 innings) – Game Three

Records: ULM (14-9, 1-2 SBC), UTA (14-10, 2-1 SBC)

MONROE, La. – Host UTA used a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 15th inning on Sunday afternoon to hand the ULM softball team a 2-1 loss to close out the opening weekend of Sun Belt Conference play.

TURNING POINT
-UTA used a one-out double in the 15th inning, followed by a single, to put the winning run at third base and set up the squeeze bunt to bring home the winning run.

NOTABLES
-The Warhawks scored the first run of the game in the first inning off an RBI single into left field by Melanie Coyne that brought in Cheyanne Lyon. The Mavericks answered with run of their own in the bottom of the second via an RBI groundout to tie the game.
-Lyon and Sami Billeaudeau each had two hits to combine for four of ULM’s nine hits. Sydney McKay, Jayden Mount, Samantha Agamaite, Hunter Hogan and Coyne all had one hit in the loss
-Coyne was saddled with the loss after tossing all 14.1 innings, allowing 13 hits and six walks while striking out eight batters in her 195 pitches.

UP NEXT
-The Warhawks now return home for the first time in three weeks for a midweek game against Incarnate Word on Wednesday night at GeoSurfaces Field.
