RUSTON – Louisiana Tech sophomore Morgan Turkoly hit the trifecta this week as the Lady Techster outfielder was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association State Hitter of the Week Tuesday.
The honor is the third of the week for the Sanger, Texas native who was also named the Conference USA and College Sports Madness Player of the Week.
Turkoly batted .615 (8-13) for the week while registering a .722 on-base percentage and a 1.154 slugging percentage during the four games. She was 8-of-13 at the plate with four walks while scoring eight runs and driving in nine runs. She had one double and two home runs, including the game-winner in the top of the ninth inning of a 1-0 win over UAB in the second game of the series.
She recorded at least one hit, one run and one RBI in all four games while also registering two stolen bases. In the first game of the week, Turkoly was scored three runs and drove in four runs in a 15-0 win over Grambling State, including a 3-run home run – her first of the year.
She followed that up with a spectacular performance in Birmingham, where she was 7-of-11 from the plate with three walks, five runs and five RBI. She hit the game-winning home run in the top of the ninth in the 1-0 win in game two. In the third game, she reached base safely all six times, including a career-high four hits while scoring three runs and driving in three runs.
Turkoly helped LA Tech become the first conference team to sweep a three-game series in Birmingham since 2009. She will lead the Lady Techsters into Wednesday night’s contest at ULM.
