LAKE CHARLES – McNeese distance runner Katja Woelfl posted one of the fastest times in school history in the 10,000-meter run when the junior finished second with a time of 35:39.19 at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday afternoon in Walnut, California.
The mark ranks as the third-fastest in school history in the long distance run behind Sita Waru (34;08.2) and Fionnuala Ross (35:18.06). McNeese Hall of Famer Keri Gilroy is ranked fourth at 35:45.95 followed by Gemma Bridge at 35:55.93.
Cowboys’ runner Christoph Graf will run in the 5,000-meters on Friday.
Also on Friday, the Cowboys and Cowgirls will open up competition at the Texas Invitational.
McNeese is ranked in the top five in the Southland Conference in eight events.
Nathan Jones is ranked No. 1 in the league in the men’s 10,000-meter run while javelin thrower Donavon Banks is second with a best throw of 222-feet, 2-inches.
