RUSTON – Northwestern State competitors were blazing and soaring despite competing into a chilly Wednesday night at the Jim Mize Invitational track and field meet.

In a triangular competition with host Louisiana Tech and UL Monroe, NSU tuned up for Saturday’s TCU Invitational, meeting the expectations of head coach Mike Heimerman.

“It was a glorified workout and everybody did well. We went in fairly healthy and came out just fine, and we got good work in,” said Heimerman. “Hopefully we’ll be sharp on Saturday at TCU.”

Meet results were not available from the host team as of 10:15 Wednesday night.

NSU’s relay teams excelled again, sweeping the 4×100 relays with the Lady Demons blowing away the competition in the 4×400.

“Our 4x1s did well, running by themselves in cool weather. The 4×4 women won by 110 meters,” said Heimerman.

Quanese Jones-Young won the women’s high jump with a personal record 5-8. “She skied over it,” said Heimerman.

When results are provided, additional information will be added about Wednesday’s meet, which began with field events at 4, added running beginning at 6 and concluded around 8:15.
