Track – Johnson breaks 800 record for second straight week

SOUTH BEND, Indiana – For the second consecutive week, McNeese middle distance runner Olandis Johnson etched his named in the school record book by setting a new mark in the 800-meters.

Johnson clocked a 1:50.41 to finish seventh in the event on the second day of the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational, bettering his record of 1:51.85 that he set at last week’s McNeese Indoor II meet.

In addition to Johnson’s time, three other Cowboys posted personal records in their respective events.

Freshman Damian O’Boyle clocked a PR time in the mile run of 4:15.67 while fellow freshman Christopher Graf ran an 8:14.55 for a 13th place finish in the 3,000-meter run.

Also in the 3,000-meters, senior Oliver James placed 21st with a PR time of 8:20.92.

The Cowboys entered the weekend ranked 11th in the USTFCCCA South Central Region poll and was second among Southland Conference schools.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls will be back in action on Saturday when they take part in the Samford Indoor Invitational in the final tuneup before the SLC Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23.
