NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State Track & Field sprinter De’Shalyn Jones was named the Southland Conference Athlete of the Week for the second time this spring with her record-setting performance at the East Texas Invitational.

Jones, a junior from Tyler, Texas, debuted in the 400m, and did so in historically, setting a program-best mark of 53.61 to finish first overall in Commerce, Texas.

This is the second time Jones has found herself atop school history, the first coming in the 200m at Baylor where her time of 23.12 smashed the previous mark of 23.63.

Jones continues to dominate the Southland Conference in unmistakable fashion, as the recent gold-medal mark in the 400 makes her one of three Division 1 athletes to lead a conference in three separate events, the 100 (11.50), 200 (23.12) and 400 (53.61).
