Tennis: Warhawks down Mercer to win fifth straight

Atlanta, Ga. – The ULM tennis team continued its strong spring with a fifth straight victory on Thursday with a 6-1 win over Mercer in Atlanta.

NOTABLES
-The Warhawks picked up the doubles point as the team of Madalina Grigoriu and Petra Horakova and the team of Tiffany Mylonas and Luana Stanciu both won doubles points by scores of 6-4.
-In singles action, the Warhawks were led by 114th-ranked Petra Horakova out of the number four slot who won 6-1, 6-0 to get the singles action started as she moved to 7-0 this spring in singles action. Stefana Andrei, playing on court one, took her match 6-1, 6-1 which is the same score that Madalina Grigoriu won by over on court six.
-Patricia Villar won her No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-3 while Tiffany Mylonas won 6-3, 6-4.
-Mercer got its only match victory when Haley Powell defeated Karolina Snita in a tight, three-set match as Powell won the third and deciding set 10-6 to win Mercer its lone point.
-ULM moved to 2-1 in school history on Thursday against the Bears as the two teams had split the previous two matches. The Warhawks took a 4-0 decision from Mercer on March 9, 2015 before Mercer evened the all-time series at one last year with a 4-3 decision.

UP NEXT
-The Warhawks now return to Heard Stadium on March 9 when they battle in-state foe Louisiana Tech. The matchup with Louisiana Tech is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
