HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana junior Dany Raygadas represented the Lions on the Southland Conference All-Academic Teams, which were announced by the league office on Thursday.

Raygadas, who hails from Queretaro, Mexico, was named to the second team. Her selection marks the fifth straight season at least one student-athlete on the league all-academic teams.

“This is a very deserving honor for Dany,” SLU head coach Jason Hayes said. “As the captain of our team, she has shown the commitment to be a great leader. She applies that same commitment in the classroom and we’re pleased with the standard Dany sets for our team academically.”

Raygadas carries a 4.0 cumulative grade point average as a computer science major. At last month’s Southeastern Athletics Academic Banquet, Raygadas was one of four SLU student-athletes, along with teammate Madina Vorotnikova and women’s soccer student-athletes Elizabeth McMurray and Amber Lasher, to be honored for posting a 4.0 GPA.

Also a member of the Southeastern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Raygadas has been a solid contributor on court with 47 combined dual-match singles and doubles victories in her career. She has a pair of seasons with double-digit singles victories and teamed with former teammate Margaux Kaltenbacher for 13 doubles victories as a sophomore on the way to earning All-Southland honors.

The All-Academic teams are voted on by the head coach, sports information director and academic staff member from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nomination institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s competition to qualify for All-Academic selection. Nominees who were also named first team All-Southland or the CoSIDA Academic All-District team are automatically named Southland All-Academic.
