RUSTON – After going seven straight matches on the road, the Louisiana Tech women’s tennis team returned home on Friday and picked up a 6-0 shutout win over crosstown foe Grambling State at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
LA Tech (8-7) improved to 3-0 on its home courts this season, grabbing the doubles point and then sweeping all five courts in singles.
“It’s always good getting a home win,” head coach Amanda Stone said. “We’ve played a lot of tough matches this first half of the season and we’ve done well against great teams. In fact, some of our best showings have been losses. Today, it’s good that everyone got to walk away with a win on their line.”
The duo of senior Jazmin Britos and junior Alba Escalona Perny picked up their fifth dubs victory of the spring, cruising to a 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot.
The tandem of freshman Nadja Manjon and junior Haley Ballinger teamed up for the first time during the dual season and came away with a 6-2 victory on court two to claim the doubles point.
Manjon quickly made it 2-0 in favor of the Lady Techsters with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 1 position, her first ever match from the top spot in the singles lineup.
Fellow freshman Jill van den Dungen pushed the leady out to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory on court five. Coming up with the clincher was Perny who won 6-4, 6-2 on court two.
Senior Marta Sramkova also came away with a straight-sets win and Ballinger went the distance to win 15-13 in a super breaker in the third set to complete the shutout.
LA Tech returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 18 when they travel to take on Arkansas State. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
