NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana moved from 19th to 14th Tuesday in the newest NAIA women’s tennis coaches poll.

The Gold Nuggets (4-5) made the second-largest climb from the previous rankings Feb. 14. Unbeaten Mobile had the largest surge, climbing from 16th to eighth.

Since the previous poll, the Gold Nuggets produced victories against No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan and No. 25 Cumberlands, both in the Grizzly Invitational at Lawrenceville, Ga. Both XULA opponents maintained their poll positions.

Not figuring into this ranking was XULA’s 6-3 neutral-site victory Monday against Brenau, which fell from fourth to ninth.

The Gold Nuggets appear in the top 25 and the top 20 for the 42nd consecutive time. Both streaks began May 1, 2012. The XULA women appeared in the top 25 in 87 of the last 97 polls dating to Feb. 25, 2004. That stretch does not include the 2005-06 academic year, when XULA did not sponsor intercollegiate athletics due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina.

Next for the Gold Nuggets will be a 1:30 p.m. Friday dual against NAIA No. 12 William Carey in Hattiesburg, Miss., at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex. The Lady Crusaders (3-1) did not move in the rankings. This dual originally was scheduled for XULA, but the schools agreed Tuesday to swap venues. The April 15 XULA-William Carey dual will move from Carey to XULA Tennis Center.
