TALLADEGA, Ala. – Talladega rode a strong first half to an easy 80-63 victory over visiting Dillard Saturday afternoon. The win was the third in the last four games for the Lady Tornadoes and their first GCAC win of the season.

Talladega had three players in double figures, led by Tashieba Henry’s 23 points on 10-16 shooting. Tajanee Wells posted her eighth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while also grabbing three steals. Sydnee Clark came off the bench to score 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting in just over 22 minutes.

The Lady Bleu Devils got 22 points and eight boards from Alyssa Washington and Keona Favis added 16 points in the defeat.

The Lady Tornadoes were in control of the ballgame from the opening tip as Wells scored the first basket of the game. A pair of Favis free throws would tie the score at two apiece. That’s as close as Dillard would get the rest of the game. Both Henry and Washington would finish the opening quarter with seven points for their respective teams, but Talladega would end the first quarter up 22-16.

Dillard struggled to score the entire first half, as they made just 10 of 29 field goal attempts and converted only 50 percent of their free throws while Talladega built their lead to as many as 17 before closing the half up 43-28.

Midway through the third quarter Talladega was still building its lead. The Lady Tornadoes’ advantage grew as large as 19 points after another Wells basket in the paint. A quick 6-0 run would give the Lady Bleu Devils some hope as they cut the lead to 13, but Talladega would immediately respond with a 5-0 spurt to push the lead back to 18. Dega would head into the final period up 64-46.

Talladega was twice able to get the lead to 20 points in the fourth and Dillard could get no closer than 16 points the rest of the way.

Dillard (9-5, 1-1 GCAC) returns home to host Philander Smith on Monday night at the Battlefield at Dent Hall. Talladega (10-7, 1-0) visits Edward Waters on Monday.
