NEW ORLEANS – Jake Storey of Georgia Southern was named the Sun Belt Men’s Golfer of the Year, Zan Luka Stirn of Arkansas State was named the Sun Belt Freshman and Newcomer of the Year, and Georgia State coach Joe Inman was tabbed Sun Belt Men’s Golf Coach of the Year in a vote of the men’s golf coaches. In addition, the 2017 All-Sun Belt Men’s Golf Team was announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Storey, a junior from Alnwick, England, led the Sun Belt with a 71.36 average score, just ahead of teammate and fellow First-Team selection, Steven Fisk. Storey has competed in 33 rounds, 11 tournaments – with one win to his credit. Storey and Fisk finished tied with two others for the individual Sun Belt championship title last week at the Raven Golf Club in Sandestin. Fisk won on the first playoff hole. Storey closed out the regular season with three consecutive top-15 finishes and a total of six top-15 places this season.

Storey and Fisk were joined on the first team by Luka Stirn of A-State, Georgia State’s Alex Herrmann, and Jared Bettcher and Clayton Vannoy of Troy.

Luka Stirn was the highest rated freshman in the league as he led all Sun Belt freshman with a 72.93 stroke average this season and a season-low round of 66 with a win. He competed in 27 rounds for the Red Wolves this season and nine tournaments, including a top-25 finish at the Sun Belt championship. The Kranj, Slovenia native was a back-to-back Golfer of the Week honoree earlier this season.

Georgia State’s Joe Inman led a Panthers squad that finished first in the league in scoring average (287.82) and earned the 2017 Sun Belt men’s golf team championship in match play. Inman’s Panthers battled through three rounds of the Sun Belt championship to finish fourth overall in the team standings to earn a spot in match play as the No. 4 seed. GSU avenged its loss to Troy a year ago in the match play finals by defeating the Trojans 4-1 in the semifinals this year before advancing to the finals against rival Georgia Southern. The Panthers claimed the team match play title 3-2 over the Eagles.

The team title for the Panthers was their second team title since 2014 and also the second Coach of the Year honor for Inman as he earned that award as well in 2014.

The 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships selections announcement will take place Thursday, May 4 at 12 p.m. ET, on Golf Channel and streamed live on the Golf Channel website. 81 teams and 45 individuals will be selected to compete in the six NCAA Men’s Regional Championship sites, May 15-17 (13 teams and 10 individuals at three regionals and 14 teams and five individuals at three regionals). 30 teams and six individuals will advance from regional sites to the national championships to be played May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
