UNO will have to wait a little bit longer to find out if they have a new conference home.
Southland Conference presidents held a conference call Thursday to consider adding UNO and two other universities to the league, but a decision was not announced afterwards.
"The Southland Conference Board of Directors met by teleconference call Thursday afternoon to discuss the league's ongoing membership process. The Board continues to review the possibilities for new membership, and is maintaining its dialogue with the institutional leadership of the University of New Orleans, Abilene Christian University and the University of the Incarnate Word," Southland Conference Commissioner Tom Burnett said in a statement released by the conference.
On Friday, MySanAntonio.com reported that Incarnate Word will receive a Southland invite on Monday but a decision on UNO and Abilene Christian has not yet been made.
UNO hosted a site visit from the Southland last month. The school will compete in athletics as Division I independent in the NCAA this school year. The Privateers left the Sun Belt Conference two years ago when a plan was put into place to drop down to NCAA Division 2 competition.
Dr. Peter Fos, the new President of the University of New Orleans, officially nixed the Division 2 move in March 2012.
