LSU baseball fans are still smarting from the Super Regional loss to Stony Brook. It stings more now that Stony Brook has been eliminated quickly from the College World Series. They were soundly defeated by UCLA and Florida State. Also, three SEC teams are still alive in Omaha. Another bummer for Tiger fans: LSU has a record of 7-2 against the trio (Florida, Arkansas and South Carolina). South Carolina is in the driver’s seat in their bracket and could win it all for the third time in a row.

A game program with updated roster will be needed to know who the LSU players are on the diamond next season. Aside from the seniors, and draftees (both from roster and signees), there are at least two other players who may leave the team, Arby Fields and Jackson Slaid. Neither can contribute as required and may move on to other locales. Slaid intends to transfer somewhere else in the quest for more playing time. Fields has been offered an opportunity to remain but in a reduced role.

LSU football fans are eagerly awaiting fall football camp. Reporting day is in early August. Tiger Stadium will host a full slate of eight home games this season, including three to open the campaign (September 1 vs. North Texas, September 8 vs. Washington and September 15 vs. Idaho). Yes, everyone has circled Saturday, November 3 on the calendar. Alabama visits Death Valley; this could be the toughest ticket to get in the history of LSU football.

Webb Simpson won the 112th US Open Golf Tournament while the top of the leaderboard was full of Louisiana flavor. Former Tulane golfer (left after Hurricane Katrina to attend Alabama) Michael Thompson finished tied for second. He led after a 1st round 66. Former LSU golfers David Toms and John Peterson finished tied for fourth. Toms was in a three-way tie for lead after 36 holes. Peterson recorded the 1st Hole-In-One of his career on Saturday at The Olympic Club. Here's a huge tip of the hat to these three golfers.

The LSU women’s track team won another National Championship this month. A tip of the hat also must go to coach Dennis Shaver. LSU continues to be one of the top programs in the country. Kimberlyn Duncan (sprinter) will go down as one of the greatest student-athletes in the school's proud history.

A little rumbling on the Southern University football front is notable. Stump Mitchell enters his 3rd season as the head coach of the Jaguars. There is some pressure on him to have a winning season and certainly a victory in the Bayou Classic. We shall see.
