Class 3A power Westlake, on the westside of Lake Charles, has a new football coach in Shawn Demeritt.
Demeritt will take the place of 34-year veteran Max Caldarera, who won a total of 210 games during his head coaching career. Demeritt comes to Westlake from South Beauregard High, a Class 3A school from the small town of Longville, a short thirty minute drive from Lake Charles.
South Beauregard struggled in its first season in 3A under Demeritt with a 4-6 mark but prospered in his three previous years in 2A, going 27-6.
Doug Guillory takes over the 2A program of Pine Prairie, located about thirty minutes north of Eunice, which has won just four games in seven seasons of existence. Guillory was the decade long coach at Opelousas Catholic through 2010, leading the Vikings to the 1A state championship game in 2005.
Guillory's teams are known for their hard-nosed and physical style of play. He looks to inject some life into the program at Pine Prairie, a school with a less-than-stellar winning tradition.
