LSU added another commitment for the 2013 class when Kennard Swanson (6'2-245) from Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, Florida informed coach Les Miles earlier today. It was the 4th commitment to the Tigers in the last 7 days and the 16th pledge for the Tigers for this class.
Aomng the current commitments, 10 are considered four-star rated players; the other six including Swanson are three stars. Nine of the players are ranked in the top 20 in the nation at their position.Swanson was offered by Ole Miss, USC, Pittsburgh, South Florida, West Virginia and Temple.
Most of the other schools recruiting Swanson viewed him as a defensive tackle. USC defensive line coach Ed Orgeron was responsible for recruiting him for the Trojans. A borderline top 10 defensive tackle in the state of Florida, Swanson recorded 11 sacks in 2011.
Swanson appears to be the heir apparent to starting fullback J.C. Copeland, a junior in 2012. Copeland arrived in the 2010 class, just like Swanson, as a 6-foot-1, 245 pound prep defensive tackle out of LaGrange, Ga. before gaining 35 pounds and moving to fullback.
More good news could be on the horizon as four-star ranked defensive tackle Greg Gilmore out of Hope Mills, North Carolina proclaimed to ESPN that LSU is his current leader. It would not surprise me to see Gilmore (6'4-285), a top 10 ranked DT in the country, officially decide on the Tigers in the very near future.
