I can go back a long way as an LSU basketball fan.
In the late 70's when Dale Brown when was putting a team together that would be good for well over a decade, you could count on LSU to make the dance on a regular basis. Then came the limited success that John Brady had in his early years during his tenure.
Trent Johnson came in to try and bring consistency to the program and had a good season with the last team Brady recruited. But the last two years were very agonizing to watch.
But something has been brewing for the last few SEC games now for the Tigers. With a few more games like the win over Mississippi state, I can see this team landing into post season, even if it turns out to be the NIT. But we can now start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
What can you say about being down by 17, clawing your way back into the game and winning in overtime very late into the night. On Valentine's Day night to boot.
Anthony Hickey, who hit the game winner in OT, along with Andre Stringer, Justin Hamilton, Storm Warren, Ralston Turner, Johnny O'Bryan and reserves including Malcolm White and even Eddie Ludwig have been playing well as of late. The Tigers are starting to put it togethe
At 15-10 and 5-6 in confefence play, LSU could win every remaining game if the cards fall right to cinch a postseason berth this year.
Hickey is using the word "family" to descirbe his jelling team. If this "family" keeps up playing like they have been lately, they could play past the SEC tournament in New Orleans.
Even NIT would be sweet after the last two seasons of heartbreak, and a major step in the right direction.
