Only one player for the New Orleans Saints has been ruled out for Sunday's home game with the Kansas City Chiefs, but the availability and effectiveness of another key performer is in question.
Marques Colston was listed on the Saints' final injury report as questionable after a third straight day of limited participation in practice. The top New Orleans wide receiver has been hampered by a left foot injury so far this season, but interim head coach Aaron Kromer indicated that he expects Colston to be ready to contribute Sunday despite missed work this week.
Defensive end Turk McBribe will miss a second straight game due to an ankle injury.
Like Colston, linebacker Jonathan Casillas (left knee) was limited Friday and listed as questionable. Quarterback Drew Brees (left ankle), wide receiver Devery Henderson (concussion), cornerback Johnny Patrick (right thigh) and safety Roman Harper (wrist) all fully participated Friday and are listed as probable.
Meanwhile, rookie running back Travaris Cadet may see time Sunday for the Saints on offense for the first time in his career. But the Appalachian State productcould factor in at the wide receiver spot after working in practice this week at the position while Colston and Henderson deal with injuries.
"He has all the tools," said Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael on Friday regarding Cadet's ability to play wideout. "It’s just a matter of learning that position over time."
Cadet was perhaps the standout Saints player in the preseason after showing his versatility as a runner, pass receiver and kick returner.
“We need to find a way to get this guy some touches," said Carmichael.
Where there's a Will: Saints defensive end Will Smith will definitely play Sunday versus the Chiefs since NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will not rule this week on potential suspensions for players previously punished in connection to the bounty saga. Smith met with Goodell in New York on Tuesday.
Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma and former New Orleans defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove also met with the commissioner while ex-Saints and current Browns linebacker Scott Fujita is expected to have a meeting with Goodell next week.
