Country Day, E.D. White Sweep Boys, Girls Tennis Regional Titles

It was a very good day at the UNO Tennis Center for Country Day Tuesday.

The Cajuns captured both the boys and girls Division V, Region III tournaments.

Country Day won the boys competition with 15 points while district rival St. Martin's finished second with six points. Christian Life was third with four points with Hannan fourth with three poitns and Central Catholic fifth with two points.

In the boys competition, the Cajuns were led by the doubles team of Chase Carpenter and Christian Wolf, who downed teammates Walker Bright and Emory Lafaye 6-4, 6-4.

Country Day's Cook Carpenter reached the singles final, falling to Bobby Foroughian of Christian Life 6-3, 6-4. Both doubles teams and Carpenter qualified for the state meet at Louisiana-Monroe next week.

In the girls competition, Country Day won the competition with 12 points with Central Catholic second with four points. St. Martin's was third with three pionts while Ascension Catholic was fourth with two points and Hannan fifth with one point.

Chloe Carpenter and Catherine Worley of the Cajuns won the doubles competition, defeating teammates Tsana Demmas and Adele Perino 6-1, 6-2. Country Day's Victoria Waguespack finished second in the singles competition, falling to Emma Thomas of Central Catholic 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in the final.

In Division III (3A), E.D. White won the boys competition with seven points while St. Chalres Catholic was second with five points and De La Salle finished third with two points.

On the boys side, Joshua Sundaram of the Cardinals won the singles title with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Julian Laborde of De La Salle. E.D. White captured the doubles title as well as Christian Bernard and John Stafford defeated Chris Millet and Mike Millet of St. Charles Catholic 6-1, 6-3.

In the girls competition, the Lady Cardinals won going away with nine points while St. Charles Catholic had one point.

Alex Donner of E.D. White captured the singles title, downing teammate Morgan Berthelot 6-3, 6-2 in the championship match. The team of Meagan Monier and Mary Walton won the doubles title for the Lady Cardinals, beating teammates Lauren Badeaux and Natalie Bernard.

A pair of local teams captured regional titles in Division IV (2A).

Newman won the boys title with 14 points while Northlake Christian was second with five points and Pope John Paul II was third with two points.

Robert Eckstein of Newman won the singles championship, defeating teammate Princeton Carter 6-1, 6-3 while the Greenies won the doubles competition as well as Chris Koch and Sean Laughlin downed teammates Clayton Kallenborn and Grant Tabb 6-2, 6-2.

In the Division IV (2A) girls competition, Sacred Heart emerged victorious, edging Newman 13-12. McGehee was third with five points with Northlake Christian fourth with four points and Pope John Paul II finishing fifth with four points.

Sacred Heart won the team title largely due to Caroline Brinson, who beat Newman's Winnie Yeats 6-1, 6-1 for the singles title. Sacred Heart won the doubles title as well as the team of Sydney Lowe and Nicole Rueb downed teammates Sara Ford-Dugal and Annie McGrew 6-0, 6-2 for the title.

In the boys Division I (5A), Region two tournament, Catholic of Baton Rouge took home first place with 20 points with St. Paul's finishing second with 10 points. Northshore was third with nine points while Mandeville finished fourth with seven points. East Ascension, Zachary and Dutchtown tied for fifth with five points each.

Tyler Cairns of Northshore won the singles title, defeating Peyton Stuart of Catholic 6-3, 6-1.

The doubles team of Paul Bienvenu and William Loupe of Catholic won the title over the team of Alack Patel and Reid Michaelis of St. Paul's 6-4, 6-4.

In the girls Division 1 (5A) Region two tournament, St. Joseph's took home first place with 20 points while Mandeville was second with 17 points. St. Scholastica finished third with 13 points, East Ascension was fourth with seven points and Baton Rouge finished fifth with five points.

Mandeville's Rachel Howie won the singles title, beating Mackenzie Noonan of St. Joseph's 6-2, 6-1.

St. Joseph's won the doubles title as the team of Marissa Noonan and Allie Smith downed the team of Megan Chatellier and Jasmine Simon of Mandeville 6-2, 6-2.
