Baseball: Holy Cross Gains Revenge Against Jesuit; John Curtis Stays Red Hot

Revenge tasted sweet for Holy Cross.

After losing to Jesuit early in the season in the opening of John Ryan Stadium in Metairie, the Tigers got a second shot at their arch-rival Monday and took total advantage of the opportunity.

Cooper Gioe singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Tigers a dramatic 4-3 win over the Blue Jays at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

The Tigers moved to 22-10 on the season and improved their power ranking heading into the 4A playoffs. The Tigers figure as the fourth or fifth-seed in the upcoming 4A playoffs.

Jesuit had beaten Holy Cross 6-1 on March 2 to open their new stadium. With the loss, Jesuit dropped to 23-7 overall.

Jesuit figures as the third or fourth-seed in the upcoming 5A playoffs.

John Curtis continued its second half surge, beating a good Belle Chasse squad 7-5.

After starting the season 1-6-1, the Patriots closed the season on a run, finishing 21-3 over their final 24 games. With a final record of 22-9-1, John Curtis looks like the fifth-seed in the upcoming 2A playoffs.

With the loss, Belle Chasse fell to 19-9 overall. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Cardinals, who figure as the eighth or ninth-seed in the upcoming 4A state playoffs.

Tuesday night, Rummel hosts Brother Martin in a big 9-5A contest which will decide second place in the league. Game time is 7 p.m. at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

You can listen to the game live on WGSO, 990 AM and at WGSO.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. and you can watch it live here at sportsNOLA.com. The video replay is set for Wednesday night at 8 p.m. on WHNO, Channel 20 as part of the First NBC Prep Baseball Showcase.

Brother Martin is 21-8 overall and 7-2 in 9-5A. Rummel is 21-10 overall and 6-3 in 9-5A. Both teams are playing for top 10 seeds and both figure to host first-round playoff games in 5A.
