Fontainebleau took a big step toward winning the 6-5A championship Friday.

The Bulldogs clinched at least a tie for the district title with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Covington.

Garrin Fontenot singled home the winning run with two outs in the sixth inning, breaking a 2-2 tie. Fontenot was the winning pitcher in relief of starter Adam Hines. Blake Taylor took the loss for Covington.

Fontainebleau moved to 9-1 in 6-5A and 15-10 overall with the win while Covington dropped to 8-3 in league play and 24-5 overall with the loss.

The Bulldogs go for the district title Monday at Mandeville while Covington will face the Skippers on Wednesday.

Holy Cross continues to roll in 10-4A.

The Tigers belted Warren Easton 14-0 in a game shortened to four-and-a-half innings by the 10-run mercy rule at Holy Cross.

Jordan Stafford allowed just three hits to pick up his first win of the season. Kyle Gardner had three hits and four RBI while Lance Licciardi added three hits and three RBI to pace a potent 14-hit attack for the Tigers.

Holy Cross moved to 21-10 on the season and finished 10-4A play at a perfect 10-0 heading toward a high seed in the 4A state playoffs. The Eagles fell to 8-11-1 overall and 1-9 in district play.
