Crescent City always has a solid baseball team. A year ago, the Pioneers reached the 1A state playoffs, beating Oak Grove 3-2 before losing to eventual state finalist Mangham 4-1 on the road in the regional round. Crescent City appears poised to make another playoff run in 2010.

Izzy Arceri homered as part of a 10-hit attack and the Pioneers capitalized on six Haynes errors to defeat the Yellow Jackets 22-7 in the season opener for the Pioneers. With the defeat, Haynes dropped to 0-1-1 on the season after tying Patrick Taylor 11-11 on Tuesday.

Josh Martins was the winning pitcher. The Pioneers will take on 5A West Jefferson in the Fisher Tournament Thursday afternoon at 3:30 at West Jefferson.
