Along with the Olympic Games, it is the biggest sporting event in the World, hence the name. World Cup 2010 gets underway this weekend.

While the United States is not a hotbed of soccer from a spectator or television viewing point of view, amateur soccer has grown dramatically in the greater New Orleans area over the past several years.

Teurlings Catholic-Lafayette and Vandebilt Catholic-Houma claimed three of the top four honors on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A All-State teams for baseball and softball.

The John Ehret Patriots finished their season on Friday against the Bonnabel Bruins. The Patriots kept there heads up high for a clean victory to close out their final game for this year’s season.

The Lady Patriots showed many improvements against Bonnabel in the eyes of Ehret's Loiesha Tucker who stated, “I thought we communicated a lot better, but that doesn’t mean we can stop playing hard.”
