Former UNO star and Slidell native Nick Schwaner has had no trouble with his transition from playing college baseball to the minor leagues as he continues to impress.

Xavier Paul continues to compile frequent flier miles between Albuquerque and Los Angeles. The former Slidell High and Archbishop Rummel outfielder was recalled by the Dodgers from Albuquerque on July 3 to replace Manny Ramirez, who was placed on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring.


Former Archbishop Hannan and Delgado star Craig Westcott’s outstanding season continued at the California League vs. Carolina League Class A All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 22.


Former Northshore High School star Logan Morrison of the New Orleans Zephyrs has been chosen to participate for the United States team in the 12th annual XM All-Star Futures Game. The U.S. stars will play against a World All-Star team consisting of players from other countries.

Former Delgado stars Jimmy Cesario and Craig Westcott have been named to the California League All-Star team.


Brian Wilson

Former LSU pitcher Brian Wilson of the San Francisco Giants continues to shine in the City by the Bay. Wilson saved three more games over the course of the past week. He now has 15 saves in 17 opportunities to go with a 2-0 record and a fine 2.45 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 25.2 innings. Wilson ranks fourth in the National League in saves.

Former LSU pitcher Brian Tallet returned to the Toronto Blue Jays from forearm soreness which had sidelined him since April 18 and pitched extremely well Tuesday night against Tampa Bay.

Charlie Furbush

For former LSU left-hander Charlie Furbush, it was the ecstasy of performing at a very high level tempered by the agony and low of seeing his team lose in a superb performance.


St. Edmund came in with an inauspicious 15-14 record but observers knew better. The Blue Jays faced a daunting schedule which included games with 2A playoff teams Rosepine and South Beauregard, games with 3A power Notre Dame and a game with 5A playoff team St. Thomas More. The tough schedule has served St. Edmund well thus far in the playoffs.
