Monday Basketball Report: Peabody to face California invader

WARHORSES FACE NEW CHALLENGE
Armed with a 51-game win streak, The Peabody Warhorses will put that winning streak on the line against powerful Compton High School of Compton, California on Monday, December 20 at the Emerald Palace on the campus of Peabody Magnet High School. Game time is 7 p.m.
Peabody is the defending 4A state champion. The Warhorses have won six state championships, including in 1975, 1979, 2000, 2004, 2007 and in 2009.
Peabody reached the Top 28 tournament in 2006, 2003, 2002, 2001, 1997, 1995, 1990, 1988,1983,1978, 1977 and 1976.
The Warhorses were quarterfinalists in 2008. Salmen knocked Peabody out in the round of eight that year 59-51 which was the last time the Warhorses lost a game. Salmen went on to win the state title.
Peabody is 10-0 under Coach Charles Smith this season. Peadoby is led by 6'7, 210-pound junior forward Troy Jones, a stalwart on last year's state championship team while 6'2 junior guard Joshua Ivory is very good. 6'3 senior guard Sherrard Davidson is solid as well, along with Henry Pryor.
The Tarbabes of coach Tony Thomas are 6-3 thus far this season, averaging 72.4 points per game. A year ago, Compton finished second in the state of California in class 2A.
Compton is led by 6'6, 185 pound junior forward Anthony January, 5'9, 160 pound senior guard Allen Guei, who averages 15 points per game, guard/forward Dazjae Hill, 6'5 junior Victor Robbins, who averages just over 16 points per game and mammoth 6'4, 275-pound senior forward Lewis Melvin.
