It figured to be a one-sided game and it turned out that way. Ryan Deemes passed for two touchdowns and ran for two others to pace Holy Cross to an easy 47-0 victory over McDonogh on Saturday night at Pan American Stadium.

Despite winning easily, Holy Cross played far short of its best game. The Tigers were a bit sloppy, turning it over on their first two possessions on fumbles and incurring nine penalties for 85 yards.

On their third possession of the game, Holy Cross finally got it going. While the Tigers were not proficient in executing drives, they got it done on this night with big plays.

Ryan Deemes found Darryl Watson wide open on a deep seam route for a 48-yard touchdown to make it 7-0 Tigers with 7:06 to play in the first quarter.

The same combination clicked again on Holy Cross' next possession, this time for 31 yards and a score and it was 14-0 Tigers with seven seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Holy Cross sustained a nine play, 40-yard drive which stalled and Nick Dale came on to nail a 33-yard field goal to make it 17-0 with 7:53 to play in the first half.

The Holy Cross defense then rose to the occasion. McDonogh quarterback Larry Cowart tried to escape pressure but he was tackled in his end zone by Ryan Wolfe for a safety to make it 19-0 Holy Cross with 6:16 to play in the first half.

Following a good kick return and a penalty, Holy Cross started from the McDonogh 12 and quickly added to the lead on a one-yard touchdown run by Deemes to make it 26-0 at halftime. Holy Cross held McDonogh to just 25 total yards in the first half.

The game got out of hand in the third quarter.

Holy Cross received the second half kickoff and Watson proceeded to return it 86 yards for a score to make it 33-0 before fans could get seated.

On the ensuing possession, three penalties against the Trojans pinned them deep in their own territory. On fourth down, a botched snap from center on a punt was recovered in the end zone by Justin Clark of the Tigers for a score to make it 40-0 with 8:58 to play in the third quarter.

At that point, both sides agreed to running time, expediting a route from getting much uglier.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Holy Cross mounted its best drive of the game, going 55 yards in nine plays, scoring on five-yard run by Deemes to make it 47-0 with 6:27 to play in the game.

McDonogh then had a nice drive which reached the Holy Cross 28-yard line but Cowart threw three incomplete passes and was sacked by Jordan Showalter, his second of the game, to end the threat.

Deemes completed 7 of 11 passes for 138 yards and two scores and rushed 8 times for 13 yards and a touchdown. Watson caught 3 passes for 83 yards and had 3 kick returns for 131 yards and a score. The Tigers defense sacked McDonogh Cowart six times.

Cowart completed 9 of 18 passes for 72 yards while Melvin Russell rushed 13 times for 27 yards.

With the win, Holy Cross improved to 3-2 and 2-0 in 10-3A and will take on 2-0 Carver next Friday night while McDonogh faces De La Salle next Saturday in a battle of 0-5 teams.
