American Legion South East LA Regional Playoffs

The South East Louisiana Regional Tournament ended with tremendous excitement on Wednesday night even though the end did not come, officially, until Thursday afternoon.

On Wednesday evening after Valero St. Charles had eliminated Otto Candies in a hotly contested game, Retif Oil was leading Peake BMW 2-0 in the top of the fourth when lightning lit up the field. Players were removed for safety purposes and then the stands were emptied moments before the skies opened up and the monsoons hit.

After Kirsch Rooney was inundated with even more rain Thursday afternoon, and the weather bureau forecasting more rain and lightning that would make it impossible to even play at John Ryan Stadium, officials declared the tournament over. The fact that the National Weather Service predicted the same weather pattern for Friday, Saturday and Sunday with as much as 70 percent chances of rain and thunderstorms made this decision necessary.

The teams advancing to the Louisiana State Tournament in Lafayette, LA beginning on July 28 will be seeded as follows:

Champion – Retif Oil

Runnerup - Valero St. Charles

3rd Place – Otto Candies

4th Place - Peake BMW

The state tournament bracket will be posted as soon as we receive it. Please check back for the bracket and we will attempt to provide results of the tournament on a nightly basis.

We will cover the Mid South Regionals beginning on August 9 daily. Retif Oil is the host team for the Mid South Regional and will play the feature game on August 9 against the Missouri state champion.
