American Legion: Friday Playoff Update/Saturday Schedule Update

PLAYOFFS BATTLE THROUGH RAIN:
It must be American Legion playoff time again because the rains have arrived.
On Friday afternoon, Townsend Homes @ Valero St. Charles was postponed until Saturday morning at 11:00 AM, the Gulf Coast Bank and Trust vs Refuel game was delayed over an hour before Refuel posted an 11-5 come from behind victory to advance into the championship round of the 2
The first district was disrupted with a 3 hour rain delay and then the first game between Roubion Elevation and Shoring vs Retif Oil was moved to John Ryan Stadium in order that both games could be played to completion.
In the game at John Ryan Stadium, Retif Oil advanced to the winners bracket with a 14-1 victory over Roubion Elevation. Roubion jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning but Retif responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.
Brett Leonhard, Andrew Mitchell and Cody Migliore combined for a two-hitter on the mound with Mitchell earning the victory.
Offensively, the Oilers were led by Michael Gogreve who was 4 for 5 with two doubles and 3 RBI, Brady Williamson 3 for 4 with 3 RBI, Mitch Alexander 2 for 4 with a triple and three runs scored, and Luke Voiron 2 for 4 with 3 RBI. Retif advances to play at 7:00 PM at Kirsch Rooney against Ponstein’s, a 14-12 winner over Peake BMW.
In the game played at Kirsch Rooney, Ponstein’s outscored Peake BMW 14-12 in 10 innings.
The game was back-and-forth the entire way with Peake taking the early lead in the first and adding runs in the second and third. Then Ponstein’s scored two in the third. At that point it was 3-2 Peake BMW.
Both teams scored five runs in the sixth inning but Ponstein’s was leading 10-9 at that point. Ponstein’s scored one in the seventh and Peake responded with two to tie the score at 11. Peake BMW had the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth but could not get a run home.
In the top of the 10th, Blake Toscano led off with a single just out of the reach of the Peake shortstop, stole second and scored on a tremendous double by Ryan Taylor, with his 4th extra base hit of the game (three doubles and a triple). The RBI was his seventh of the contest.
Ponstein’s scored two more in the 10th to go up 14-11. Peake did not surrender. They scored one in the bottom of the inning and had the bases loaded before the game ended.
Connor Caminita, Sammy Capielano, Greg Raynal, Christian Volion and Toscano also had multi hit games for Ponstein’s. For Peake BMW Cody Ducote was 4 for 5 with 5 RBI and Greg Deichmann, Jarrett Gongora and Brice Johnston had multi hit games.
Peake BMW will face Roubion Elevation and Shoring at 4:00 PM at Kirsch Rooney in an elimination game.
In the game at Destrehan Saturday morning, Valero St. Charles eliminated Townsend Homes 10-0 to secure a spot in the South East Regional Playoffs. Valero will play Otto Candies at Hahnville on Sunday July 8, 2012 at 2:00 PM.
At Kirsch Rooney Saturday morning, Deanie’s Seafood pulled a win from the jaws of defeat in the bottom of the ninth over Culicchia Neurological. Trailing 3-2 Deanie’s loaded the bases with two outs and Devin Morrill doubled to drive in the tying and winning runs. Deanie’s will face Gulf Coast Bank and Trust in an elimination game Sunday morning at 10:00 AM at Kirsch Rooney Stadium. The winner will then face Refuel on Monday for seeding.
