American Legion: Deanie's, Otto Candies Use Timely Hits, Opposing Miscues To Earn Wins

RESULTS FROM TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY:
Archbishop Rummel-based Deanie's Seafood pulled away late to down De La Salle-based Roubion Elevation and Shoring, 4-1, in Wednesday afternoon's opening game at Kirsch Rooney.
Deanie's Devin Morrill and Roubion's Barrett Juneau matched up very evenly in the pitching department.
Roubion broke the ice by scoring one in the top of the third. Scott Lauland singled and then was forced at second by Drew Tortorich but the relay throw to first went wild sending Tortorich to second. Barrett Juneau then reached on an infield throwing error with Tortorich scoring on the play.
Deanie's tied the score in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a single by Ross Budenski and an RBI double by Jon Riera.
In the bottom of the sixth, Juneau retired the first two batters quickly but Spencer Veit singled sharply to left, stole second base and scored on another single by Budenski. Jeremy Sterling then doubled down the left field line scoring Budenski. Sterling scored two hitters later on another costly Roubion error to close out the scoring.
Morrill went seven innings allowing only one hit and one unearned run. He walked 5 while striking out 12. Juneau threw six innings allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk with eight strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Hahnville-based Otto Candies wasted little time in jumping on Brother Martin-based Peake BMW and took home a 6-2 victory.
Travis Faucheaux led off the game by singling to center and moved to third as Tyler Simmons reached on a two-base throwing error. Faucheaux scored when Cody Farrell grounded out to short. Mike Ford then singled to right field driving in Simmons for a 2–0 Otto Candies lead.
In the bottom of the first, Simmons retired the first two Peake batters but Cody Ducote reached on an error, Bryce Johnston ran for Ducote and moved to second on a Rivers Frederick single before scoring on Peyton Senner's single to center.
Otto Candies then added to their lead without the benefit of a hit. Easton Melancon walked, stole second and scored on an error.
In the fifth, Faucheaux and Simmons singled with one out. Cody Farrell walked to load the bases. Mike Ford hit a sacrifice fly to left to drive Faucheaux home with the fourth run for Otto Candies.
Although Peake BMW scored one run in the bottom of the sixth to draw within two, Otto Candies added two insurances runs in the top of the seventh.
Simmons was the winning pitcher for Otto Candies while Peake's Tyler Zamjahn took the loss.

Talk about a wild finish! Frankie Watts singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give John Ehret-based Culicchia Neurological a 7-6 victory over St. Charles Catholic-based Townsend Homes in eight innings at Ehret.
Culicchia built a 4-0 lead entering the top of the seventh inning but Townsend Homes staged a dramatic rally to tie the game with six runs in the seventh to take a two-run lead. Culicchia responded with two runs to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, forcing the extra frame.
Tyler Williams picked up the win for Culicchia while Nathan Bordelon took the loss for Townsend Homes. Torin Burns went 3-for-3 for Culicchia, now 2-3 on the season. Brandon Zimmer had a pair of hits for Townsend Homes, now 3-2.
